Hello Pittsburgh

I will be calling Pittsburgh my home! This message is a bit delayed, but I have accepted a job as the Head of Technical Theatre at Point Park University. I am excited to join the wonderful faculty and staff in the Conservatory of Performing Arts and Pittsburgh Playhouse.

I also need to apologize. I have not written a post for over 2 months. But when this news came about life became a bit busy. Selling a house is a lot of work. We have found that we owe more then our house is worth. …

Rest in Peace Grandma

My grandma Bollinger passed away last week after a long battle with cancer.  She will be missed.
Most of the family spent today together at a memorial celebration of Milly’s life.  I wasn’t able to be there today, but I was asked to put together a memorial slide show to be shown at the event.  With the help of my cousin Ryan and other family members, I was able to get all of the photos digitally here in Florida.  I then spent any extra time I had on building this show in After Effects.  (this wasn’t easy given all of the …

The TransPorters (March of Dimes)

So here is our official emblem of the TransPorters. If you haven’t been following the excitement on Facebook or Twitter, then you been missing out on the fundraising efforts of of my wife and I (mostly my wife). But we started raising money for a March of Dimes walk in celebration of Porter’s 1st birthday and to help support the efforts that go towards premature births. We originally set our goal as $350 dollars for each day that Porter was alive by the time we did the walk, but we found so much wonderful support. Before …

March for Babies

My wife was checking out the March of Dimes website and discovered that our local chapter was having a fundraising walk only 5 days before Porter’s first birthday (April 15).  She thought that maybe it would be a fun way to celebrate Porter’s first year while enjoying the spring weather and raising money for a great cause.
We have decided to call our team The Trans-PORTERs (trust me, it is better than some of the other names we threw around) and we are looking for people to join us on the walk.  We have …

The Long Reach Long Riders @ USITT

This group benefits the ESTA Foundation’s Behind The Scenes program and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.  If you are at USITT, you can donate money to this group and get a bracelet.  If you are interested keep your eyes open for Loren Schreiber.
An excerpt from their site: “The [motorcycle] riders will assemble at the Presidio in San Francisco on the morning of July 24th and head north into the Napa Valley. Over the next seven days the group will ride through Eureka, Susanville, Le Vining and then over to Truckee and Lake Tahoe. They’ll ride …

This is how we won WWII

History has never been my strong suit.  However, I am pretty sure this is one of the reasons we won WWII.
There is no other reason for this post then to just share this with the world.

Toys to Avoid

I usually don’t want to submit my readers to something so painful.  But my wife saw this on TV this morning and a part of my soul cried when I saw it.

I don’t think there is much more to say then , wow….really?

Porter’s Lobster Shack!

You must check out this lobster.  It will make you “AWE”.

That is right, this is my son.  And our first stop was the seafood department.

Of course he was in a pot.  We didn’t have the proper gloves and you don’t want to hand them things any other way.

Lori evidently works for Porter’s L.S., while I am a tourist just looking for something that I can gobble up.

He was a bit shocked when we pulled out the claw crackers.

Hope your Halloween was a good one as well.

The needs of children

So today the family went out to purchase a new car seat. My boy is growing fast and will eventually be to big for the infant seat he has now. Conveniently there are varieties that can hold infants properly facing backwards in the car and then adapt to face forward and hold a toddler.
As exciting as this might be, it got me thinking how many “seats” my 5 mo. old already has. We had to make sure he was happy and have a bouncer, swing, and excersaucer. He has to sit up for the adjustment to …

Talk Like A Pirate Day

Well September 19th has come around again, and if you have been locked in the closet for the past decade you should know that it is Talk Like A Pirate Day.   This day still has a huge following despite past new of actual Somalian Pirates.  If you want to celebrate this day, you probably have to water down your rum and reduce your vitamin C levels (scurvy). If this doesn’t appeal to you there are many online ways to enjoy this day. First and foremost is the site www.talklikeapirate.com. There is a lot of good piratey assistance …
